In this period of never-ending health crisis, it is sometimes difficult to maintain morale… Fortunately, we still have many simple pleasures to enjoy without a surgical mask. But yes ! For example…sleeping or…eating. We’re kidding! (half, half). Also, you may know it, but certain foods have the power to greatly influence our morale. So we thought it was the perfect time to make cocktails to drink! You see, it’s quick and easy to do…
N°1: The refreshing hibiscus cocktail to bring summer…
It is a cocktail originating from the African continent. Their names differ. It is called for example » Bissap in Senegalese Wolof, or Karkade »Egypt. It is, however, the same drink, an iced infusion made from hibiscus flowers. This one, just by looking at it, you will already feel the soft heat of summer hitting your tanned skin, the smell of Monoi in your nostrils and at night, in the hollow of your ears, the sweet breath of mosquitoes thirsty for your blood. !!!!!!!! We deviate. Among the innumerable virtues of the hibiscus flower, the one that interests us here is its reputation as a natural remedy against depression, in particular for its high concentration of antioxidant molecules. Therefore, this little cocktail will be perfect to counteract states of depression and wake up the tiger that sleeps in you…
The ingredients
For this hibiscus cocktail recipe, you will need:
- Dried hibiscus flowers (available at organic stores or online)
- mint leaves
- a file
- Sugar
The preparation
First, boil a handful of dried flowers in a saucepan for 15-20 minutes until the water turns red. Collect and store the infusion in the refrigerator overnight. The next day, pour your drink into a pretty-stemmed cocktail glass in a Baccarat crystal case (or a plain glass if you don’t have one). Add a few mint leaves and squeeze half of the lime. You can keep the other one or use it to decorate your glass. Finally, if the flavor is too strong, you can add a small amount of sugar or a few tablespoons of honey, depending on your wishes!
We’d like to point out that we’ve customized the original recipe a bit in our own way, but to invent a real Bissap , it’s over here.
Nº 2: Fresh chia the fun cocktail with chia seeds
This one, I bet you don’t know! Fresh chia is a well-known drink in Latin America and particularly in Mexico, where it originates from. The star ingredient of this cocktail is, obviously, the chia seed, which is one of those small miraculous seeds that we consume daily for our health, especially if you are not a big fruit and vegetable… Chia seeds are full of omega 3, minerals (calcium, magnesium, iron, etc.) and has a very low glycemic index. Therefore, they are excellent for fighting stress and small depressions.
The ingredients
To invent a fresh Chia You will need:
- very cold water
- Chia seeds (available at organic stores or online)
- A fruit to squeeze (lemon, orange, grapefruit…) or red fruits
- Sugar
The preparation
Start by filling your cocktail glass with cold water, add a tablespoon of chia seeds and stir. Put everything in the fridge for about 20 minutes. Then squeeze half of the lemon into your preparation. You may also prefer to mash some red fruits in the bottom of your glass, as desired. To finish, add a little sugar, honey or agave syrup if you feel like it. Stir and voila!
N°3: the hemp cocktail to fly above your worries…
Hemp is much more famous under the name Cannabis sativa because of its reputation as a «recreational» plant. But for our cocktail, we are going to talk here about another type of Cannabis sativa , this one without THC (substance responsible for the psychotropic effects). It has countless health benefits due to its concentration of CBD (Cannabidiol), an active ingredient known, among other things, to relieve anxiety and depression.
The ingredients
- Dried hemp leaves (available at organic stores or online)
- almond milk
- Syrup
The preparation
First, boil a handful of hemp leaves in a saucepan for 15-20 minutes until the water turns greenish. Collect and store the infusion in the refrigerator overnight. The next day, pour your drink into your glass and add a drop of milk and grenadine syrup (or other syrup of your choice). Mix it all up and enjoy!
